Preserving a Legend
Saving a tree that is over 400 years old.
This is a catalpa tree on the campus of Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi.
When the largest south stem began to fracture and separate, Woodland Tree was able to take the weight off the limb with a crane that happened to be in town and installed emergency support straps to center leader to hold the limb.
Then Woodland built and installed the temporary understory supports out of treated pine lumber. Later Woodland installed final permanent metal adjustable supports. It was a custom in-house design, engineering, fabrication and installation project.
With the help of the support system that is now in place, this campus treasure will continue to be part of the Ole Miss campus for many years to come.
